[ John Paul Thornton, "Tibetan Opera Dancer"]
Here is a Painting of a Tibetan Opera Dancer, from the series inspired by my journey to Dharamsala, India.
A close up detail shows that he skin is a patchwork created from alternating shapes of warm and cool planes. Brush strokes are placed side by side and left intact. A minimum of blending around the lips suggests movement. A few dark accents define the corners of the mouth, nostril and eyes.
A detail of the head dress, painted thickly with a knife.
