Nude Back

[ Nude Back, by John Paul Thornton]

I painted this from life in one session.

Always when I approach this kind of image and design I feel a connection to the traditions of poetry and gravity that held sway centuries before my birth.

To me, the color and atmosphere were the areas of focus.
The most direct way to achieve harmony in color is to limit the palette. Here, I have used only four tubes of paint: cadmium red, yellow ochre, Ivory black and white. The sense of green in the flesh was created with the yellow and black mixed together.
